If he is your friend too then you need to tell HIM that he needs to be honest with her or else you will tell her. Give HIM the option to tell her first and if he doesn't, then YOU tell her what is going on. This way he can't blame you for telling her behind his back, cause he will already know that you gave him an ultimatum. He may not like the ultimatum, but you can tell him that you don't want to be put in the middle because both of them are your friends. He should understand that, and if not, I guess he wasn't a very good friend in the first place and forget about him. At least your girl friend will appreciate that you came clean with her about the situation and was honest with her.
